Carbon steel, also known as plain carbon steel, contains carbon (C) as its primary alloying element. It has an iron matrix with only small amounts of silicon and manganese for deoxidation and contains no valuable alloying elements such as chromium, nickel, molybdenum, or vanadium. It is classified into low-carbon, medium-carbon, and high-carbon steel based on carbon content. - Low-carbon steel: steel structural supports, welded pipes, stamped parts, and architectural sheet metal - Medium-carbon steel: shafts, gears, bolts, and general-purpose mechanical structural components - High-carbon steel: springs, cutting tools, wear-resistant liners, and steel wire ropes
